Exploring the alien planet in Satisfactory is essential to unlock key items and milestones. You can also research some later ores earlier—before you discover them in the HUB milestones. Just as important, though, is getting familiar with the local flora and fauna. The planet hosts strange plants and creatures that will pose a few puzzles. Whether oddly shaped flowers or unknown monsters, you’ll have to deal with them, too. The Molecular Analysis Machine (MAM) helps you decode and make use of them. Today we’re looking at three of these MAM research trees!

Satisfactory MAM Nutrients Research: Craft the Inhaler and heal quickly

Satisfactory MAM Nutrients Research: Craft the Inhaler and heal efficiently

This research tree is very short, and you should complete it early on to improve your healing. You’ll need to find three plants: Paleberries, Beryl Nuts, and Bacon Agaric. You should be able to recognize and pick them up without much trouble.

Where to find them:

  • Paleberry: In forest biomes (not in dry areas)
  • Beryl Nut: Common in desert biomes (not in forests or jungles)
  • Bacon Agaric: Somewhat rarer, primarily in forests (occasionally in deserts)

You can also eat these plants directly to heal 5–20 HP. That’s not very efficient and is more of an emergency option. Instead, focus on unlocking the Inhaler.

To unlock it, you’ll need:

  • 25x Modular Frame
  • 50x Steel Pipe
  • 500x Wire

After that, invest a few more of the three plants to get the Medical Inhaler! It fully restores your health, no matter how low you are. You’ll also unlock multiple crafting recipes, which will show up again in the next two research trees.

Satisfactory MAM Alien Fauna Research: Alien DNA Capsules, Rebar Gun, and inventory slots

Satisfactory Alien Fauna research in the MAM: Unlock DNA Capsules and the Rebar Gun

If you’d rather jump straight into combat, check out this research path! We already have a complete guide to the combat system if you need an overview (Satisfactory Combat System: Weapons, Monsters & Tips) . This tree focuses on processing alien remains. You can refine them into Proteins and use them for various purposes.

This research unlocks:

  • Alien Protein: From the remains of the four common creatures (Hatcher, Hog, Spitter, Stinger), you can craft Alien Protein. It’s used for DNA Capsules, alternative Biomass, and Inhalers.
  • Alien DNA Capsule: Crafted from Alien Protein, DNA Capsules don’t have a direct gameplay use. However, they’re perfect for farming points and Coupons in the AWESOME Sink (Satisfactory AWESOME Sink & Shop: How to farm coupons fast) . They give 1,000 points.
  • Inhaler: Using Protein, you can unlock another Inhaler recipe by combining it with Beryl Nuts.
  • Rebar Gun: The Rebar Gun is likely the first ranged weapon you can unlock. You can research it as early as Tier 2, and you should. You’ll also get standard Iron Rebar ammo; with further research you can unlock Explosive, Shatter, and Stun Rebar.
  • Inventory slots: On the other branch, you can expand your inventory. Unlock six additional slots as well as an extra hand slot. That’s always useful for carrying more.
  • Creature Scanner: The final unlock in Alien Fauna is the Creature Scanner. You can only unlock it in Tier 7, since it requires Quartz Oscillators and High-Speed Connectors. Alternatively, you can get both items via the Quartz and Caterium research. The scanner lets you detect nearby hostiles.

Satisfactory MAM Mycelia Research: Craft Fabric, Parachute, Gas Nobelisk, and Gas Mask

Satisfactory Mycelia research in the MAM: Craft Fabric, use the Parachute and Gas Mask

Researching Mycelia in Satisfactory is important, especially for later milestones. You’ll unlock some very cool gadgets based on processing the mushrooms you find. The starting point is crafting Fabric, which you’ll need for further recipes.

The basis is Mycelia, which you can find in various locations. To collect it, pick up small mushrooms on the ground or in caves, or use a Chainsaw to cut down large mushrooms. You can also obtain Mycelia from other plants and corals.

With Mycelia, you can unlock:

  • Biomass from Mycelia: Biomass is an early fuel used in the Biomass Burner. Here you unlock an alternative recipe using Mycelia, which can simplify production. Later you’ll turn it into Solid Biofuel, craft the Gas Nobelisks below, and even set up Jelly Pads.
  • Fabric: Fabric is a key material only available in this research tree. Normally you craft it from Mycelia and Biomass, but later you’ll unlock an alternative recipe using Polymer Resin and Water (Synthetic Fabric).
  • Gas Nobelisk: In the Sulfur research (Satisfactory Sulfur Research: Locations, Nobelisk, Fuel, and Weapons) you can unlock explosive weapons. In this branch, you’ll learn to craft Gas Nobelisks from Biomass. They’re very effective in combat, releasing a gas cloud that deals continuous damage.
  • Parachute: Using Cable and Fabric, you can craft a Parachute to negate fall damage. Press the jump key while falling to deploy it.
  • Gas Mask + Filter (+ Hazmat Suit): Fabric is the MVP in this section because protective gear becomes essential when you enter radioactive areas. In the MAM you’ll unlock the Gas Mask and Filter. You’ll also need Fabric for the Hazmat Suit recipe unlocked in Tier 7. Once you can craft both, wear them for your own safety.
  • Inhaler: Finally, Mycelia unlocks two more Inhaler recipes: one combined with Paleberries, the other with Alien Protein and Bacon Agaric. This lets you turn all plants into effective healing items.

Conclusion: Use Satisfactory’s MAM research on flora and fauna

MAM research into plants and creatures is key to gearing up for the game. You’ll unlock various Medical Inhaler recipes, plus handy equipment like the Parachute, Rebar Gun, and Gas Mask. You can also process alien remains and sink them as DNA Capsules in the AWESOME Sink to rack up points for Coupons.
