Enshrouded blends classic RPG gameplay with survival mechanics for a unique experience. And of course, that includes fighting all kinds of monsters waiting for you across Embervale. With multiple classes and weapons, it can feel overwhelming at first, and every new area brings fresh challenges. That’s why it’s crucial to nail the combat fundamentals and take down even the biggest bosses. Enshrouded’s combat is easy to learn but offers lots of options and flexibility. Here are some of the most important tips to help you fight your way through Embervale.

1. Enshrouded enemies: Identify types and exploit weaknesses

Recognize enemy types in Enshrouded and exploit weaknesses

Enshrouded features a wide variety of enemies eager to take you down. It’s important to learn how they behave and respond correctly. We recommend watching new or unknown foes first to see how they attack. Use their weaknesses to land your hits.

You’ll encounter these enemy types in Enshrouded:

  • The Fallen: Former humans consumed by the Shroud.
  • Scavengers: Humanoid raiders with bad intentions.
  • Vukah: Beast-like creatures known for their strength.
  • Hollow: Inhuman undead who’ve lost their flesh and roam as skeletons.
  • Drak: Lizard-like beings found in the new Veilwater Basin.
  • Flora: Certain plants, like poisonous flowers or fungi, are hostile.
  • Fauna: Most animals are passive, but some will attack if provoked.

2. Enshrouded combat movement: Keep moving and master dodging

Your agility is one of your biggest strengths, helping you move faster and more efficiently. That’s key for every playstyle, since avoiding damage is usually better than blocking it. However, rolling, jumping, and dodging consume Stamina, so you should invest in those skills. “Double Jump” and “Updraft” are two excellent abilities that improve your combat mobility.

Use every trick you’ve got. Kite enemies to draw them out, jump over them, or try to hit their backs for bonus damage.

3. Enshrouded weapons: Test different weapon types and attack styles

One of the coolest parts of Enshrouded is the variety of weapons you can find. Especially as a new player, we recommend trying different options to see which attack style you prefer. For a deep dive into every weapon type, check out our guide (Enshrouded Weapons Guide: Weapon Types, Gems, Enchantments) .

From the classic sword-and-shield combo to bows and even two distinct wands, anything is possible. You can also mix and match freely and swap as you like—you don’t have to lock yourself in.

4. Enshrouded gear: Match armor and rings to the region

If you haven’t finished the current update or reached the max level yet, always tailor your loadout to the area you’re exploring (Enshrouded Biome Guide: All Regions in Embervale) . Each region features specialized armor designed for the appropriate level range.

You can both craft and find armor. You can also combine set pieces to get the best of both worlds. You’re not hard-locked into classes either, even if some sets favor certain playstyles. Armor protects against both physical and elemental damage. Be sure to update your rings too whenever you find better ones.

5. Enshrouded gems: Farm gems that fit your combat style

Enshrouded jewels and gems for weapons and builds

Gems are upgrades for your weapons if they have an available slot. You’ll generally find them for higher-level weapons, though you might get lucky and find an early weapon with a slot. Gem drops are tied to specific regions and specific enemies, and they’re not guaranteed. If you’re hunting a particular gem, you’ll need to farm the right monsters.

Gems are fantastic once you’ve found a weapon and playstyle you like. They range from simple damage boosts to powerful regeneration for HP, Mana, and Stamina. Stronger enemies tend to drop better gems, so you’ll need to take some risks for top-tier loot.

6. Enshrouded shields: Time your blocks and parries

Shields are a viable alternative to dodging from tip #2. You can block and even parry if you deflect at the right moment. Watch for the enemy weapon’s flash to nail the timing. Successful parries fill the bar beneath enemies and cause them to stagger.

You can find shields in the world or craft them at the Blacksmith if you have the recipe. Each shield has durability, block value, and parry damage. At the Alchemist, you can craft magic shields suited for mages. They share the same core stats but often add extra perks.

7. Enshrouded tactics: Split enemy groups to stay in control

Separate enemy groups in Enshrouded and use the environment tactically

Our final tip is about the fights themselves: don’t rush in. It’s often smarter to pick off enemies one by one instead of getting overwhelmed by large groups. You have plenty of room to maneuver and don’t need to finish the fight where it starts. Keep moving and fall back if things get dicey.

Always use the environment to your advantage—one of Enshrouded’s best features. You can even avoid fights entirely with a stealthy approach. Against big packs, it’s wise to isolate enemies or keep them in check with large area attacks.

Conclusion: Find your Enshrouded combat style and master every fight

With its broad selection of weapons and skills, Enshrouded offers deep, flexible combat. You don’t have to specialize in just one thing—combine different abilities to suit your needs. Pay close attention to your agility and Stamina, and try to tackle multiple enemies one at a time.
